Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month

Every year, May is recognized worldwide as "Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month". This month is organized to draw attention to serious health problems such as skin cancer, especially melanoma, and to raise awareness and public awareness about prevention and early detection.

Skin cancer is a common health problem worldwide. Melanoma is one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer because it can spread aggressively and can be fatal if left untreated.

Knowing the environmental and genetic factors that increase the risk of skin cancer helps individuals to be aware of healthy living and taking preventive measures. Sunlight exposure is the most common cause of melanoma and UV exposure is known to increase the risk of skin cancer. In addition, factors such as family history, multiple moles, fair skin color, radiation exposure, exposure to chemical carcinogens and chronic microtraumas can also increase the risk of skin cancer. Therefore, it is important for individuals who are aware of these risk factors to have regular skin examinations and take care of their skin health. Early diagnosis increases the chances of treatment, while taking preventive measures can reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Symptoms of skin cancer include changes in moles or skin lesions, crusting, bleeding or wounds that do not heal. Timely assessment of changes in the skin allows cancer to be detected in the early stages and a more effective treatment plan to be implemented. Therefore, it is important to consult a healthcare professional immediately upon noticing any suspicious symptoms or lesions.

"Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month" is an important opportunity to raise public awareness of these important health issues and encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyles. Remember to take this month to take steps to protect your health.
